Abercrombie & Fitch, founded in 1892 by David Abercrombie, was initially a store which sold sporting goods as well as travel related items. How things have changed! The company struggled financially until in 1988 it was bought out by The Limited. abercrombie is the children's version of A & F and is extremely popular with the 7-14 age group. The abercrombie store blasts music from young artists, and spells marketing trademarks all-lowercase. Hollister Co. targets teenagers 14-18 and these stores resemble surf shacks with dim lighting and loud rock music. It also offers a personal body care line. RUEHL No.925 is patterned after Greenwich Village in New York City and aims at the post collegiate 22-35 year old consumer. It is the most expensive of all the Abercrombie and Fitch lines and it is the first of the A & F brands to offer genuine leather purses and bags for women. Finally, there is Gilly Hicks. This is the latest brand from Abercrombie & Fitch and it offers underwear and loungewear for women 18 and up.
